About

Lake Wedington Recreation Area sits on a 102-acre lake in the Ozark-St. Francis National Forest, just 13 miles west of Fayetteville on Highway 16. Built during the 1930s by the Works Progress Administration and transferred to Forest Service management in 1954, the area is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The 18 primitive campsites are arranged near the boat launch and feature parking pads, tent areas, picnic tables, fire pits, and charcoal grills. The recreation area offers diverse activities including fishing for Largemouth Bass, Bluegill, Channel Catfish, and the occasional trophy Grass Carp. A wheelchair-accessible fishing pier and swimming beach provide lake access, while the Lakeshore Hiking Trail circles much of the lake and the North Twin Trail extends 16 miles for hikers and mountain bikers. Boating is permitted with motors 10hp or less. Two bathhouses with flush toilets serve the campground, and a dump station is available for RVs. The area also includes six historic rental cabins, a lodge, group pavilion, volleyball courts, and horseshoe pits. Wildlife in the surrounding hardwood forest includes deer, wild turkeys, songbirds, and wintering eagles.
