About

Built during the 1930s by the Works Progress Administration and transferred to the Forest Service in 1954, Lake Wedington Recreation Area is a 102-acre lake destination now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The facility offers 18 campsites without hookups, 6 historic stone cabins, a lodge, and group camping options alongside day-use amenities including a swimming beach, fishing pier, picnic sites, and volleyball courts. The lake supports fishing for bluegill, largemouth and spotted bass, bream, and channel catfish, with boating limited to motors of 10hp or less. The Lakeshore Hiking Trail circles much of the lake and features a gazebo with lake views and a seasonal waterfall. Mountain bikers can access the North Twin Trail, which extends 7 miles through the area. Wildlife including deer, wild turkey, migratory waterfowl, and occasional winter eagles inhabit the surrounding Boston Mountains landscape. The recreation area is managed by the Forest Service in partnership with the University of Arkansas and the Friends of Lake Wedington volunteer group. The facility provides convenient access to northwest Arkansas, situated between Fayetteville and Siloam Springs on Highway 16.

Directions

From Fayetteville, travel west on Highway 16 for 13 miles to the Lake Wedington entry road. From Siloam Springs, travel east on Highway 16 for 13 miles. The road is negotiable for RVs and camping trailers.
