About

Lake Logan State Park is a 318-acre recreational area in Hocking County, Ohio, centered around a 400-acre lake developed in 1955. The park is recognized as one of the finest fishing lakes in Ohio, with abundant populations of northern pike, bass, bluegill, crappie, catfish, and saugeye. Originally known as Hocking Lake, it was renamed Lake Logan to honor Mingo Chief James John Logan. The park features a 527-foot public swimming beach on the north shore with concessions, restrooms, and changing facilities. Boating is permitted with a 10-horsepower limit, and boat rentals are available. The campground is situated in oak-hickory forests with white oak, black oak, tuliptree, and hickory. Wildlife includes white-tailed deer, wild turkey, raccoon, and various bird species including red-tailed hawks and pileated woodpeckers. Located in Ohio's unglaciated Hocking Valley, the park offers scenic picnic areas and walking paths through wooded terrain. The surrounding region features rich mineral history from coal mining and iron production during the Civil War era. Lake Logan serves as a base for exploring the broader Hocking Hills area, with nearby state parks and forests within easy reach.
