The Equestrian Campground at Welaka State Forest sits within the Sandhill Equestrian Trailhead in Putnam County, approximately 25 minutes south of Palatka. This facility is designed with horse enthusiasts in mind, featuring 48 horse stalls and multiple arenas for training and exercise. Campers have access to nearly 20 miles of equestrian and hiking trails that wind through the forest's sandhill habitat. The campground offers a mix of site types including five full-hookup RV/tent sites with 50-amp electric and water connections, five primitive tent-only sites, and 36 reservable horse stalls. A pavilion is available for group gatherings. Amenities include restrooms with showers, fire rings, and picnic areas. Nearby attractions include Dunns Creek State Park, Ravine Gardens State Park, and the Ocala National Forest. Reservations can be made through ReserveAmerica up to 11 months in advance. The campground operates year-round. Note that prescribed burns are conducted annually in the forest, and burn bans may occasionally be in effect.

Directions

From Palatka: At the intersection of US 17 and CR 309 in Satsuma, turn south on CR 309. Continue 6.6 miles to the Welaka State Forest Office on your left. Turn left at the forest office and follow the service road 0.6 miles to the equestrian area.
