About

Salt Springs Recreation Area is one of the recreational jewels of Ocala National Forest, built around a spectacular natural mineral spring that rises from deep within the earth. The presence of potassium, magnesium, and sodium salts gives the water a slight salinity. This is the largest and most developed campground in the forest, and the only one offering full hookups for RVs. The campground features spacious, shaded sites for RVs and trailers with full hookups (water, electric, and sewer), as well as a designated tent-only camping area located a short walk from parking. The semi-tropical setting provides a mixture of pines and palms with lush greenery. The recreation area offers extensive water activities including swimming in the spring, fishing on Salt Springs Run downstream of the swimming area, and boating access via the boat ramp and marina. Boat rentals are available nearby. Land-based recreation includes basketball courts, horseshoe pits, and hiking access to the Bear Swamp Trail and a segment of the 1,400-mile Florida National Scenic Trail. The campground is located within the community of Salt Springs, which has a gas station, grocery store, restaurants, bait and tackle shops, post office, and laundromat. Salt Springs is situated between the St. Johns and Ocklawaha Rivers, about 35 miles east of Ocala, and provides access to Lake George, a renowned fishing destination.
