About

Lewis and Clark Trail State Park sits along Highway 12 near Dayton, Washington, marking a campsite used by the Corps of Discovery in 1806. The 36-acre park hugs the Touchet River, offering a lush corridor of black cottonwoods and willows that contrasts sharply with the surrounding wheat fields and rolling Palouse hills. The campground features 24 standard sites suitable for tents or smaller RVs, all without hookups. Each site includes a fire pit with grate, picnic table, and BBQ stand. Facilities include restrooms with flush toilets and showers, potable water spigots, and a dump station. The park also rents 16-foot-diameter teepees that sleep up to eight, and a reservable kitchen shelter with electricity accommodates group gatherings. Interpretive trails wind through the riparian forest, and the river attracts anglers targeting smallmouth bass and rainbow trout. Wildlife includes deer, wild turkeys, and various songbirds. The park makes a convenient base for exploring the nearby wine country of the Walla Walla Valley.
