About

Midway Campground is a remote, primitive camping destination perched at 6,000 feet in the Blue Mountains of Umatilla National Forest. Located on the Pomeroy Ranger District in Columbia County, Washington, this high-elevation site sees heavier snowpack than lower campgrounds in the area, limiting access to the summer and fall months. The campground offers a quiet, undeveloped camping experience with picnic tables at sites and convenient access to nearby hiking trails. However, campers must be fully self-sufficient as there is no potable water or restroom facilities on site. The remote location approximately 90 minutes from Pomeroy via a series of county roads and Forest Service Road 46 adds to the backcountry feel. During the fee season from April 1 through November 30, camping costs $8 per night for the first two vehicles with an additional $5 charge per extra vehicle. Leave No Trace principles are emphasized at this site.

Directions

From Pomeroy, Washington (~90 minutes): Starting at Main Street, take a right to turn onto US Highway 12 west bound for 4.5 miles. Turn left onto Tatum Mountain Road for 1.2 miles, going south. Turn right at the Y, onto Linville Gulch Road (County Road 1180) south bound for 5.3 miles. Take Bartels Road and Linville Gulch Road to Blind Grade Road (County Road 1040) for 1.7 miles. Take a right (south bound) onto Tucannon River Road (County Road 9233) through The Wooten State Wildlife Area and continue onto Forest Service Road 47 for 11.5 miles. Once past the Tucannon Campground and Camp Wooten State Park, take a right, north/west bound onto Forest Service Road 4620 (Patrick Grade) for 3 miles. Continue until you see Forest Service Road 46 on the left. Take Forest Service Road 46 for 6 miles until you reach Midway Campground.
