Air Quality Alert issued July 14 at 11:07AM CDT by NWS Grand Forks ND
* WHAT...The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has issued an Air Quality Alert for fine particles pollution. The Air Quality Index (AQI) is expected to reach the Red or Unhealthy category. * WHERE...East central, central, west central, southeast, north central, and northwest Minnesota. * WHEN...Until 11 AM CDT Friday. * IMPACTS...Some members of the general public may experience health effects. Sensitive groups, such as people with lung disease (including asthma), heart disease, and children and older adults, may experience health effects. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Very heavy smoke is expected across the Arrowhead today, as large wildfires continue to spread. Hot temperatures, when combined with the air pollution, will exacerbate health impacts. A frontal boundary will then spread heavy smoke further south this evening into Wednesday morning, as it moves across northern and central Minnesota. The onset of smoke will be rapid. This boundary eventually passes through the Twin Cities and into southeastern Minnesota on Wednesday or Wednesday evening, bringing heavy smoke even further south. Additional rounds of heavy smoke are possible from Thursday through Friday morning across the alert area.
About
La Salle Lake State Recreation Area is Minnesota's newest state recreation area, situated on one of the state's most pristine and deepest lakes. La Salle Lake plunges to 213 feet and covers 221 acres, supporting excellent populations of walleye, northern pike, largemouth bass, black crappie, and bluegill. The crystal-clear waters and surrounding red and jack pine forests create a true wilderness experience. The modern campground features 39 spacious sites, all with full electric, water, and sewer hookups. The lengthy parking spurs on level gravel pads accommodate RVs of any size. A well-maintained sanitation building provides flush toilets, hot showers with private stalls, and laundry facilities. Each site includes a fire ring for evening campfires. Beyond camping, the recreation area offers 11.5 miles of trails ranging from easy to difficult terrain for hiking and snowshoeing. An accessible boardwalk and picnic area provide lake views, and a fishing pier and boat launch offer easy water access. The area is also open to hunting and trapping in season, and nearby snowmobile and ATV trails provide winter recreation options.
