About
La Salle Lake State Recreation Area is Minnesota's newest state recreation area, offering a peaceful wilderness getaway amid pristine red and jack pine forests in Hubbard County. The centerpiece is La Salle Lake, one of Minnesota's deepest inland lakes at 213 feet and covering 221 acres, supporting populations of walleye, northern pike, largemouth bass, black crappie, and bluegill. The modern campground features 39 spacious campsites with full electric, water, and sewer hookups designed to accommodate any size RV with lengthy parking spurs on mostly level gravel pads. A sanitation building with laundry facilities serves campers. The recreation area offers 11.5 miles of trails ranging from easy to difficult terrain, winding through some of the most pristine parts of the property including old-growth northern white cedar forests. East-facing slopes feature hardwood forests with occasional large white pines, balsam fir, and white spruce. Recreational opportunities include fishing, hiking, snowshoeing, wildlife viewing, canoeing, kayaking, boating, and swimming. The park provides a fishing pier, boat access, playground, and beach area. Two rental cabins are also available seasonally. Located about 35 miles north of Park Rapids and five miles north of Itasca State Park, the recreation area offers a truly immersive northwoods experience along the Great River Road and Mississippi River Trail.
Directions
From the north entrance of Itasca State Park, proceed north on Clearwater County Road 2 for 6 miles. Turn right onto Clearwater County Road 40 and proceed 4 miles. CR 40 becomes Hubbard County Road 9. The recreation area will be on your right, on the south side of the road.
