Visitors to the Kisatchie Bayou Recreation Area can enjoy scenic views of the rocky bayou surrounded by beautiful old growth hardwood and pine forest in this out-of-the-way recreation area. The campground provides a primitive walk-in camping atmosphere with 17 walk-in sites and 1 drive-in site at the middle parking area, each equipped with tent pads, barbeque pits, fire rings, picnic tables, and lantern posts.
The recreation complex offers access to Kisatchie Bayou for fishing, canoeing, and kayaking, with access steps from the lower parking lot to the water's edge. Popular fish species include bass, perch, sunfish, and catfish. The area also provides hiking opportunities, including access to the Caroline Dormon Trail. The day-use area features vault restroom facilities, trash receptacles, picnic tables, and fire rings.
This is a designated fee area within the Kisatchie Hills Wilderness region. Campers should be prepared for a primitive experience and must bring all their own water, as none is available on-site. The remote location along Forest Road 366 offers visitors a peaceful, secluded camping experience surrounded by the natural beauty of Louisiana's only national forest.
Directions
From the intersection of I-49 and Highway 6 in Natchitoches, drive west on Highway 6 for 4 miles. Turn left (south) on Louisiana Highway 117 and proceed 16 miles to Forest Highway 59 (Longleaf Trail Scenic Byway). Turn left (east) on FH 59 and go 7 miles to FR 321. Turn right (south) on FR 321 and go 4 miles to Forest Road 366. Turn right (west) on FR 366 and proceed to the end of the road.
