About

Coyote Camp is an out-of-the-way primitive camping area tucked within the National Red Dirt Wildlife Management Preserve in Kisatchie National Forest, Louisiana's only national forest. While designated as a hunter's camp, it welcomes general forest visitors year-round for dispersed camping at no cost. The maximum stay is 14 days. The main draw is OHV access to the Sandstone Trail system, which offers miles of trails for off-highway vehicles, mountain biking, and hiking through the pine and hardwood forests of the preserve. This is a true backcountry experience in a quiet corner of Louisiana where cell service is limited to nonexistent. Facilities are extremely limited. Restrooms are available but there is no potable water, so campers must bring their own supply. The site is best suited for self-sufficient campers comfortable with primitive conditions.
