About
Oak Camp is a primitive camping area nestled within the 38,450-acre National Red Dirt Wildlife Management Preserve in Kisatchie National Forest near Natchitoches, Louisiana. This designated hunter's camp welcomes both horse campers and general campers, offering a backcountry experience in one of Louisiana's most rugged and scenic forest areas. The camp provides vault toilets but no potable water, requiring campers to bring their own water supply. As a primitive camping facility, Oak Camp offers a true wilderness experience with minimal amenities. The camp is available year-round on a first-come, first-served basis with no fees required. OHV camping is not permitted at this location. Dogs are welcome but must be kept on leash. The preserve's steep and varied terrain provides excellent opportunities for horseback riding, hunting, and exploring Louisiana's upland pine ecosystems. Access to Oak Camp requires navigating Forest Roads from the Longleaf Trail Scenic Byway. The camp is managed by the Kisatchie Ranger District office in Provencal, Louisiana. Campers should be prepared for a primitive experience and practice Leave No Trace principles in this designated wildlife management area.
