About
Fullerton Recreation Area is located within Kisatchie National Forest in Vernon Parish, Louisiana, on the site of what was once the thriving Fullerton Sawmill community. Established in the early 1900s, the Fullerton Sawmill was one of the largest lumber operations in the American South before it closed in the 1920s. The site was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986, and today visitors can walk the 1.6-mile Fullerton Mill Trail with QR-code-equipped interpretive signs to explore the ruins and foundations of the former sawmill town. The recreation complex offers camping areas accommodating tents, trailers, and RVs, along with day-use facilities including a group picnic shelter, children's playground, and non-motorized boat launch on Fullerton Lake. Amenities include flush restrooms, potable water from faucets, fire rings, picnic tables, and trash receptacles. Bank fishing is available along the lake. The campground normally operates first-come, first-served at $15 per night for single sites, with Interagency Senior/Access pass holders eligible for a 50% discount on the site they personally occupy.
