About
Tucked away in a heavily wooded, streamside location at the confluence of Kelly Creek and the North Fork of the Clearwater River in Northwest Idaho, Kelly Forks Campground offers a secluded retreat for campers seeking abundant outdoor recreation. The campground features 14 individual sites and a group area, with a campground host present during the operating season to assist visitors. The location provides direct access to exceptional recreational opportunities. A hiking trail leads directly from the campground up to Flat Mountain, while horseback riding trails are available in the vicinity. Kelly Creek is renowned as a Blue Ribbon cutthroat trout stream operating under catch and release regulations, making it a premier destination for fly fishing enthusiasts. The rivers also offer swimming opportunities during warmer months, and the area is known for abundant watchable wildlife. Access to Kelly Forks requires a commitment to remote travel. From Orofino, the route covers approximately 85 miles via Pierce and Forest Service Road 250. The alternative route from Superior, Montana crosses Hoodoo Pass at 6,000 feet elevation, which is typically impassable from November until early July due to snow and is not plowed. Campers should be prepared for self-sufficient camping, as the campground operates on a pack-it-in, pack-it-out basis with no garbage services provided.
