Hazardous traveling conditions. Use extra caution while driving. Closures and disruptions to infrastructure may occur. The hazardous conditions could impact the Wednesday morning and evening commutes, especially over higher passes.

Pete Ott Camp is situated in the remote backcountry of the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests in Clearwater County, Idaho. This campground serves as a waypoint for outdoor enthusiasts exploring the rugged terrain of north-central Idaho's mountainous forests. The area near Pete Ott Creek offers access to backcountry trails, including routes to Pete Ott Lake and the surrounding high country. The campground is accessed via Forest Service roads, including the Black Canyon Road (Forest Road 255), which may be subject to seasonal closures and avalanche hazards. The Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests encompass 4 million acres of diverse wilderness, with portions of the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness nearby. The forests are managed by the U.S. Forest Service with headquarters in Kamiah, Idaho.

Directions

From Orofino, Idaho, take Highway 12 to Greer, then Highway 11 to Pierce. Before entering Pierce, turn right onto Road 250 (French Mountain Road) and follow it to the Bungalow Ranger Station. Continue on Road 250 along the North Fork River, then turn onto Road 711 at Cold Springs Creek. Follow Road 711 to Road 5295, then switchback onto Road 5297, which leads to the Flat Mountain Trailhead.
