About
Sharp Creek Group Campground sits at 6,000 feet elevation in the Tonto National Forest, providing a cool escape from Arizona's desert heat. The campground features three group sites within a thick ponderosa pine forest below the Mogollon Rim, each capable of hosting up to 75 people. Every group site has a designated vault bathroom and paved parking for day visitors, with a large shared field in the center for group activities. The setting below the Mogollon Rim offers spectacular canyon and butte scenery. Christopher Creek lies less than a mile away with trout fishing opportunities. The historic Highline National Recreation Trail, stretching 51 miles along the rim's base, is accessible from the 260 Trail three miles east. Woods Canyon Lake and Willow Springs Lake nearby provide additional fishing and boating. Group sites include picnic tables, grills, campfire rings, and lantern holders. Reservations can be made up to 12 months in advance on Recreation.gov. The campground operates April through October with a 14-day stay limit.
Directions
From Payson, take Highway 260 east for 23 miles. The campground is on the south side of Highway 260, approximately 1.5 miles east of Christopher Creek.
