About
Jacks Creek Group Area is a scenic group campground at approximately 8,000 feet elevation within Santa Fe National Forest. Located 21 miles north of Pecos on Highway 63 and Forest Road 555, it provides two spacious group units (Group A and Group B) that each accommodate up to 40 guests. The campground is set among aspens and mixed conifers on the edge of the Pecos Wilderness, offering mountain breezes and moderate temperatures during the operating season. Facilities include vault toilets, bear-proof trash receptacles, picnic tables, fire rings, and grills at each group site. Group Site B offers accessible facilities for visitors with disabilities. All access roads are paved, suitable for low-clearance vehicles. The campground features gated entrances for security and private parking lots for each group. The adjacent Jacks Creek Trail #257 provides 14.3 miles of hiking and horseback riding access into the Pecos Wilderness, with a popular route to Pecos Baldy Lake. Jacks Creek offers fishing for rainbow, brown, and cutthroat trout. Note that horses and horse trailers are not permitted in the campground itself, and ATVs are prohibited.
