Jacks Creek Group Area is a picturesque, high-elevation campground situated at approximately 8,000 feet within the Santa Fe National Forest, just 50 miles from Santa Fe. The campground features 2 spacious group units available for reservation (Group A and Group B), each accommodating up to 40 guests, making it perfect for family reunions, recreational events, and large gatherings. Set among aspens and mixed conifer forests, visitors enjoy moderate temperatures and invigorating mountain breezes with stunning views of the surrounding Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Nestled on the edge of the Pecos Wilderness, which encompasses 160,000 acres of mountain landscapes and high-altitude lakes, the campground provides excellent access to outdoor recreation. The nearby Jacks Creek Trail #257 spans 14.3 miles and is best suited for experienced hikers and horseback riders, with a popular route leading to Pecos Baldy Lake. Jacks Creek offers fishing opportunities for rainbow, brown, and cutthroat trout. The region teems with diverse wildlife including elk, mule deer, and migratory birds, with bald eagles and other raptors spotted in winter. Each group site includes tables, grills, fire rings, and vault toilets, with Group Site B offering accessible facilities.
Directions
From Santa Fe, take I-25 east for approximately 18 miles to the Glorieta/Pecos exit. Take State Highway 50 for about 5 miles to Pecos. At the four-way stop, turn left onto State Highway 63. Travel north on Highway 63 for about 21 miles, then turn onto Forest Road 555 to reach the campground.
