Jacks Creek Horse Camp offers an authentic mountain camping experience specifically designed for equestrian enthusiasts in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of Santa Fe National Forest. Located at approximately 8,000 feet elevation and 21 miles north of Pecos, the campground is beautifully situated among aspens and mixed conifer forests. The facility includes 8 equestrian camping units with 5 permanent 12'x12' corrals and highlines or picket lines available at 3 additional sites. There are 15 designated spaces for horse trailer parking. All sites are flat and equipped with tables and grills. The campground provides vault toilets that are ADA accessible and trash bins. Currently, no potable water is available on-site due to a system outage, though new water systems are anticipated to be installed in 2025. RVs are welcome, but there are no hookups or shower facilities. The campground serves as an excellent base for exploring the Pecos Wilderness Area and surrounding trails. Campers can enjoy hiking, horseback riding, and backcountry access. Dogs must be leashed in the campground. ATVs are not permitted, and quiet hours are enforced from 10pm to 7am. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations.
