About

Jack Creek Recreation Area is a primitive, no-fee campground located in the Ouachita National Forest in western Arkansas, near Booneville. The area was constructed in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps and features several unique historic facilities. The campground is set in a picturesque location alongside towering rock bluffs and flowing waters, making it popular for swimming and fishing. Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table, fire ring, and grill. Vault toilets are provided, but there is no potable water available, so campers must bring their own supply. The area offers a short trail that climbs to a recently restored rock overlook vista with panoramic views of pine trees and colorful fall foliage. Trailheads for the 4-mile Hole-In-The-Ground Mountain Hiking Trail and the 3-mile Sugar Creek Hiking Trail are also located here. The campground operates seasonally, typically from March through mid-October, on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations or fees required. It is managed by the Poteau Cold Springs Ranger District.
