About
Island Campground is a primitive campground in the Monongahela National Forest that attracts anglers seeking access to Long Run and the East Fork of the Greenbrier River. The campground's remote location and streamside setting make it a peaceful base for fishing and exploring the surrounding wilderness. Hikers can access the East Fork Trail #365, an 8-mile trail with difficult terrain, directly from the campground. For those seeking a shorter day hike, the Smoke Camp Trail #324 is nearby at 1.8 miles in length. The campground features basic amenities typical of primitive Forest Service sites, with vault toilets but no potable water or other facilities. Located approximately 5 miles northeast of Bartow, West Virginia, Island Campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations. The campground's primitive nature and limited facilities mean campers should come prepared with their own water and camping supplies.
Directions
From Bartow, WV, take US Route 250S for approximately 3 miles. Take a left on Route 28. Campground is on the left after approximately 3 more miles.
