About

Island Lake Campground offers a peaceful retreat in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, nestled within Hiawatha National Forest on the shores of a 32.5-acre lake. The campground features 10 single-family sites that can be doubled up for larger groups, plus one group site, all set among classic red and white pines with several sites overlooking the water. The area receives lighter visitor use than nearby campgrounds, making it ideal for those seeking solitude. Fishing is a primary draw, with largemouth bass, bluegill, and perch in the lake. A boat slip accommodates small carry-in boats and canoes for exploring the water. The campground also serves as a base for OHV riders, with off-road vehicles permitted for access in and out. Hiking and biking trails are nearby, and the popular Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and Grand Island are just 15 miles north at Lake Superior. Facilities are rustic, with vault toilets, hand pump wells for drinking water, fire pits, and picnic tables at each site. There are no hookups, showers, or dump station. Campers should bring firewood from local sources only, as outside firewood is prohibited to prevent invasive species spread.
