About

Diamond Rock Campground offers a distinctive camping experience with its three historic Adirondack-style shelters constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps before the era of modern RV camping. These three-sided wooden structures provide weather protection while maintaining an open-air feel, representing Depression-era craftsmanship in Arizona's high country. Located at 7,890 feet elevation along the East Fork Black River, the campground sits within an 8-mile recreation corridor stretching south to Buffalo Crossing Campground. The sites are intentionally set back from the stream to protect the Black River's unique riparian zone, though access to the water remains easy as the undergrowth enhances rather than obstructs passage. The Three Forks Trail begins at the campground, though it is lightly traveled and may become overgrown beyond the first mile. Amenities are basic: vault toilets, rock fire rings, and seasonal drinking water. The historic shelter design predates large vehicle camping, making this a tent and small vehicle destination rather than an RV park.
