About
Hornswoggle Group Campground is located near Bullards Bar Reservoir on the North Yuba River at 2,200 feet elevation in Tahoe National Forest. The campground offers six group sites: five sites accommodate up to 25 people each, and one larger site holds up to 50 people. Sites are available by reservation only through Recreation.gov, with rates of $88 per night for standard sites and $155 per night for the larger site. Maximum RV length is 50 feet, and central parking is provided. The campground sits in a heavily forested area with plenty of shade, surrounded by both conifer and hardwood forests. Located just half a mile from Dark Day boat ramp and 3 miles from Cottage Creek boat ramp, the campground provides excellent access to Bullards Bar Reservoir's 4,760 acres of surface area and over 60 miles of shoreline. The reservoir offers year-round fishing for warm and cold water fish species, boating, water skiing, and other water sports. Nearby attractions include a non-motorized trail system with five different trails ranging from 0.7 to 14 miles. The area supports wildlife viewing, hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. Supplies are available at the marina and in nearby communities of Camptonville, North San Juan, and Dobbins. Bears frequent the area, so all food must be stored in approved containers.
Directions
From Nevada City, travel approximately 20 miles north on Highway 49 to Marysville Road. Turn left on Marysville Road and continue for 4 miles. Campground is across the road from Schoolhouse Campground.
