Hone Quarry Campground

Hone Quarry Campground sits in the Shenandoah Valley region of Virginia's George Washington and Jefferson National Forest, less than a mile from Hone Quarry Reservoir. This primitive campground operates year-round on a first-come, first-served basis with on-site payment via cash, check, or the Recreation.gov Scan and Pay mobile app. Each site accommodates one RV or two tents with a maximum of two vehicles and eight people. The area is known for its access to popular rock climbing destinations via nearby trailheads. A picturesque stream flows through the campground, and hikers can reach a scenic 15-foot waterfall. An adjacent group picnic shelter is available at no charge on a first-come, first-served basis. Facilities are minimal: vault toilets are available, but there is no potable water, so campers must bring their own. The access road (Hone Quarry Road) is paved but rough, and high-clearance vehicles are recommended beyond the gravel parking area. Quiet hours are enforced from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Bear safety food storage requirements apply.

Directions

From Harrisonburg, VA: Take US Route 42 south approximately 3 miles to the intersection with State Route 257 at Dayton. Turn right onto State Route 257 west and proceed to the stop sign. Turn left, staying on State Route 257 to Briery Branch. In Briery Branch, turn right, still on State Route 257, and follow it to the intersection with Forest Service Road 62. Turn right onto Forest Service Road 62 and follow 1.7 miles to the campground.
