About

Herring Creek Campground offers a peaceful mountain camping experience in the Stanislaus National Forest. Located approximately 9 miles from Highway 108 via Herring Creek Road (Forest Road 4N12), this small campground features 7 campsites nestled in a mixed conifer forest setting near Herring Creek. Each campsite is equipped with a table and fire ring. The campground road and parking pads are dirt-surfaced. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations available. Campers should bring their own water, as no potable water is available on-site, though water can be treated or filtered from nearby sources. Vault toilets are provided. America the Beautiful Senior and Access passes receive 50% off the nightly camping fee. The area offers opportunities for fishing in nearby streams and exploring the surrounding forest. A campfire permit is recommended for stoves, grills, or campfires and can be obtained free at preventwildfiresca.org or any ranger station. Maximum occupancy is six people per site with a 14-day stay limit.
