About
Herring Creek Campground is a rustic camping destination nestled in a mixed conifer forest along Herring Creek in the Stanislaus National Forest. Located on Forest Road 4N12, the campground is reached by turning right onto Herring Creek Road off Highway 108, about 3 miles past the Summit Ranger Station, then continuing approximately 6 more miles on the dirt forest road. The campground features 7 single-family campsites, each with a picnic table and fire ring. Vault toilets are provided, but campers must bring their own drinking water as no potable water is available on-site. The main road and parking pads are dirt-surfaced. A free California campfire permit is required for campfires and can be obtained from preventwildfiresca.org. This is a first-come, first-served campground with no reservations accepted. Maximum occupancy per site is 6 people, and the maximum stay is 14 days. Check-in time is 2:00 p.m. and check-out is 12:00 p.m., with quiet hours from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
Directions
From Highway 108, approximately 3 miles east of the Summit Ranger Station, turn right onto Herring Creek Road (Forest Road 4N12). Continue approximately 7 miles on the dirt road to reach the campground.
