About

Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park Campground is located in the Santa Cruz Mountains and features 107 family campsites set in a shady mixed evergreen forest of pine and oak trees. The campground has a separate entrance from the main day-use area, accessed off Graham Hill Road in Scotts Valley. Campsites accommodate both tents and RVs, with a maximum trailer length of 31 feet and maximum motorhome length of 35 feet. The campground also includes one bike-in site for touring cyclists. The park preserves over 4,650 acres of diverse ecosystems including a spectacular 40-acre old-growth redwood grove with trees up to 277 feet tall and approximately 1,500 years old. Visitors can explore 15 miles of hiking and riding trails through forests that look much as they did 200 years ago. The Redwood Grove Loop Trail is an easy 0.8-mile self-guided walk featuring the famous Fremont Tree, large enough to step inside. The park also protects rare Sandhills habitat, ancient marine deposits home to endangered plants and animals. From Memorial Day through Labor Day, the park offers interpreter-led activities including junior ranger programs, guided hikes, and campfire programs. Anglers can fish the San Lorenzo River for steelhead and salmon during winter months. The adjacent Roaring Camp Railroad offers historic steam train rides. Dogs are allowed in campsites and on select trails. The park typically operates its campground seasonally from April through October.
