American Forks Campground

Closed

Closed for the season. The campground operates from Memorial Day weekend through the end of September. Reservations for the 8 reservable sites are available through Recreation.gov; the remaining 4 sites are first-come, first-served.

About

American Forks Campground is located in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest where the American and Bumping Rivers meet in the East Cascade mountains. The campground occupies an old-growth forest setting with Douglas fir, western hemlock, and cedar canopy, plus understory of ferns and mosses. Wildlife in the area includes deer, elk, porcupine, and various bird species, with the nearby wilderness areas providing habitat for northern spotted owl and gray wolves. The campground offers 12 standard nonelectric sites, with 8 available by reservation through Recreation.gov and 4 first-come, first-served. Sites feature back-in driveways with paved surfaces and can accommodate vehicles up to 40 feet. Vault toilets are provided but there is no potable water, so campers must bring their own supply. Campfires are permitted and pets are welcome. Recreation opportunities include fishing for rainbow and brown trout in the American River, boating and fishing at Bumping Lake, and hiking or horseback riding into the William O. Douglas and Norse Peak Wilderness areas. The scenic Mather Parkway provides excellent driving, and winter visitors can enjoy snowshoeing and cross-country skiing in the area.
