About
Bromley Shelter is a backcountry overnight shelter situated on the coincident Appalachian Trail and Long Trail within Green Mountain National Forest. The shelter lies approximately 2 miles north of the Route 11/30 AT trailhead, along the gradual ascent toward Bromley Mountain summit. Originally constructed as a replacement for the former Mad Tom Notch Shelter, it features a three-sided lean-to design with a covered cooking and seating area. The shelter operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no fees or reservation system. Capacity is typically 6-10 hikers. A composting privy is provided on site. Water must be obtained from a nearby stream or spring and should be filtered or treated before drinking, as water purity cannot be guaranteed. Hikers should carry backup shelter as the site frequently fills during peak season. As with all Long Trail overnight sites, the Green Mountain Club requests stays be limited to two consecutive nights. Dogs are permitted but must be leashed at overnight sites. Hikers must pack out all trash. The shelter is accessible only by foot; there is no vehicle access.
