Poet Creek Campground
Open year-round but may be inaccessible due to snow. No reservations; first-come, first-served. No fees.
About
Poet Creek Campground is a small, primitive campground situated in tall timber along the Magruder Road Corridor in Idaho's Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests. With just 4 sites, it offers a quiet backcountry experience for those willing to make the journey. Each site has a fire ring and picnic table, and vault toilets are available. The campground serves as a staging area for backcountry exploration, with four stock mangers located south of the campground for horses and pack animals (though stock is not permitted within the campground itself). Hot Springs Creek Trail #581 is accessible from nearby Bargamin Creek Trail #502. This is a true backcountry site with no potable water, no garbage service (pack-it-out), and no fees. The access road is not recommended for low-clearance vehicles, motorhomes, or trailers. Expect rough, remote conditions.
Directions
From State Highway 14, turn south onto Red River-Dixie Road #222. Follow Road #222 past the former Red River Ranger Station to its junction with Nezperce Trail Road #468. Turn east onto Road #468 and follow approximately 25 miles to the campground.
