About

Poet Creek Campground is a remote, primitive campground located in the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest along the Magruder Road Corridor. Set in tall timber, this small campground offers four campsites, each equipped with a fire ring and picnic table. Four stock managers located south of the campground make this an ideal destination for horseback riders and pack animal enthusiasts. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no fees. While open year-round, access is often limited by snow during winter months. The remote location requires travel on Forest Road 468 (Nezperce Trail Road), which is not recommended for low-clearance vehicles, motor homes, or vehicles towing trailers. A vault toilet is available, but campers must treat or filter water from nearby sources and pack out all trash. Poet Creek Campground serves as an excellent base for exploring the surrounding backcountry through horseback riding, OHV road riding, and backpacking. The campground's location near the Magruder Corridor and proximity to wilderness trails makes it popular with adventurers seeking solitude in Idaho's rugged backcountry.
