About
Granite Creek Campground is a free, primitive backcountry campground situated at 7,000 feet elevation along Granite Creek in the Sierra National Forest. Located approximately 35 miles from Bass Lake, the campground serves as a gateway to the Ansel Adams Wilderness with adjacent trailheads for backcountry exploration. The campground features two distinct loops with 20 total campsites shaded by fir trees. The upper loop is designated as horse-friendly and includes corrals for equestrian campers, while the lower loop prohibits horses. Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table, and vault toilets are available. Campers must bring their own drinking water as no potable water is provided. Access requires a long drive on Forest Road 81 (Minarets Road) from North Fork, with roughly 52 miles of travel time taking about 1 hour and 45 minutes. The remote location and backcountry setting offer solitude and direct access to high Sierra wilderness.
Directions
From Fresno take Hwy 41 north to Road 200. Turn right and travel east to North Fork. Continue through North Fork to Minarets Road (Forest 81). The Clover Meadow Station is 52 miles from the Bass Lake Ranger District in North Fork, with a driving time of 1 hour and 45 minutes. Once at the ranger station, travel approximately 0.5 mile and turn right on road 4S60. Continue 3.1 miles to the campground; the lower Granite Creek loop is at 0.9 miles.
