About

Goldhill Camping Area occupies a scenic location adjacent to Piru Creek at the base of Alamo Mountain in the Mt. Pinos Ranger District of Los Padres National Forest. Several primitive campsites are scattered across a flat area atop a steep bluff that forms the north bank of the creek, with signs of historic gold placer mining visible throughout the area. The campground is shaded by oak trees and provides a peaceful setting for tent camping and RVs up to 26 feet. This primitive camping area is particularly popular with off-highway vehicle enthusiasts, offering access to several Forest Service OHV roads and trails including the Goldhill OHV Trail. The site is located approximately eight miles southwest of Hungry Valley State Vehicular Recreation Area, making it an ideal staging point for multi-day OHV adventures. The area also attracts hunters during fall season. The McPhearson Peak Trail and Aliso Trail both begin at this campground, providing opportunities for hiking and exploration. Campers should plan to be completely self-sustainable, as this is a primitive site with minimal facilities. An Adventure Pass is required for parking, and visitors must pack out all trash following Leave No Trace principles. A 14-day stay limit applies, and quiet hours are enforced from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM.

Directions

From the northern entrance on Goldhill Road (8N01) into Hungry Valley State Park off of Ralph's Ranch Road near Gorman, continue to follow the road to the STOP sign. Turn right and continue on the same road. Goldhill Camping Area is on the right in a large flat area just before the creek crossing.
