Open for the season. The campground is accessible May 1 through October 31. The access road (FS 7N03) is closed annually November 1 through April 30 due to MVUM seasonal closure.

The National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard has issued a Red Flag Warning for wind and low relative humidity, which is in effect from noon Wednesday to 9 AM PDT Thursday. The Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect. * WINDS...Northwest to north winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts of 35 to 55 mph, strongest in Sundowner wind prone areas of southern Santa Barbara County. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...10 to 25 percent. * IMPACTS...If fire ignition occurs, conditions are favorable for extreme fire behavior, rapid fire growth, and long range spotting, which could threaten life and property. The hot air mass will also contribute to the potential for significant vertical plume growth.

About
Halfmoon Campground sits at 4,720 feet elevation in a shaded area along Piru Creek in the Mt. Pinos Ranger District of Los Padres National Forest. This small, primitive campground offers 10 well-spaced sites that provide good privacy. Each site is equipped with a picnic table and fire ring/grill for campfires when conditions permit. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with a $5 per night fee. Interagency Senior/Access passes provide a 50% discount. Vault toilets are available, but there is no potable water on site, so campers must bring an adequate supply. Quiet hours are enforced from 10pm to 6am, with a maximum stay of 14 days. Access to Halfmoon is via Grade Valley-Mutau Road (Forest Road 7N03), a dirt road that runs approximately 9 miles from the Lockwood Valley/Grade Valley Road junction. The road and campground are subject to seasonal closure from November 1 through April 30 due to Multiple Vehicle Use Management regulations.
