About

Fort Tejon State Historic Park preserves the site of an 1854 U.S. Army fort established to protect and control Native Americans relocated to the Sebastian Indian Reservation and to provide security for travelers and settlers in the region. The park's group campground offers the only overnight camping option at this historic site, designed for organized groups of 25-50 people. The campground includes two RV/trailer pull-in spaces equipped with electric and water hookups, along with open areas suitable for tent camping. Amenities include picnic tables, barbecues, fire pits, and potable water available at spigots along the campground fence. Restroom facilities consist of an open pit toilet within the campground. Adjacent parking is provided for group vehicles. The park grounds are open sunrise to sunset, with the visitor center and exhibits operating Tuesday through Saturday from 9am to 4pm. Beyond camping, visitors can explore restored adobe buildings, attend living history programs including Civil War reenactments, and learn about the fort's role in the U.S. Army Camel Corps experiment of the 1850s.
