About
Gold Creek Campground is a primitive 4-site campground nestled at 4,841 feet elevation in the Bitterroot National Forest, approximately 15 miles east of Stevensville, Montana. The campground is free and operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations available. Basic facilities include vault toilets and picnic tables at each site, but campers must bring their own drinking water and pack out all trash. The area offers extensive recreation opportunities including hiking, mountain biking, motorcycle riding, and horseback riding. Trails from the campground provide access to the Skalkaho Wildlife Preserve, Gold Creek, and the Easthouse National Recreation Trail. Fishing is available in area creeks and the North Fork Bitterroot, with hunting for deer and elk in season. The campground can accommodate RVs or trailers up to 25 feet. A Food Storage Order is in effect from March 1 through December 1 annually due to bear activity. Camping is limited to 16 consecutive days, after which campers must relocate at least 5 miles away. Pets are allowed but must be kept leashed.
