About

Onion Valley Campground is a primitive, first-come-first-served campground tucked away in the Tahoe National Forest near Emigrant Gap. The campground sits in a scenic meadow along a creek, surrounded by stands of cedar, pine, and fir trees that provide welcome shade during summer months. This remote location offers a true escape from civilization with no cell service available in the area. Facilities are basic, limited to vault toilets. There is no potable water on site, so campers must bring their own water supply. Drinking water is available at nearby campgrounds if needed. The area is popular for mountain biking and serves as a quiet basecamp for exploring the surrounding national forest. The campground typically operates from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, and sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis at $18 per night.
