About
North Fork Campground is nestled along the North Fork of the North Fork American River in Tahoe National Forest, accessible via the Emigrant Gap exit off Interstate 80. The campground provides a peaceful escape in a remote, forested setting shaded by cedar, pine, and fir trees. With 16 campsites including both standard and tent-only options, it offers a more intimate camping experience. A highlight of this campground is the swimming hole located a short walk from the end of the loop. Rainbow trout fishing draws anglers to the river, while nearby hiking and OHV trails provide additional recreation. The campground also offers foot trail access into the North Fork American Wild and Scenic River canyon, with more trails available at Grouse Ridge Non-Motorized Area and Donner Summit to the east on I-80.
Directions
From I-80, take exit 158A (eastbound) or 158B (westbound) to Emigrant Gap. Turn right on Texas Hill Road and continue approximately 6.5 miles, then turn right into the campground.
