Special Weather Statement issued May 3 at 2:50AM EDT by NWS Jacksonville FL

2:50 AM — 9:00 AM

Patchy to areas of locally dense fog have developed across portions of inland southeast Georgia and northern portions of the Suwannee Valley overnight. This fog may expand somewhat across the rest of the Suwannee Valley through around sunrise. Visibilities may occasionally be reduced below one half mile for these locations through the early morning hours on Sunday. Motorists overnight and early on Sunday morning should remain alert for sudden changes in visibility, especially in low spots and near marshes, rivers, creeks or lakes. If driving, slow down and leave extra distance ahead of you in case a sudden stop is needed.

About

General Coffee State Park is one of southern Georgia's best kept secrets, offering 1,511 acres in Coffee County's wiregrass region. The park features 50 developed campsites with 30-amp and 50-amp electric hookups plus water, as well as 10 primitive dry camping sites. Modern amenities include communal bathhouses with flush toilets and hot showers, laundry facilities, and a dump station. Each campsite has a picnic table, fire pit, and BBQ grill. The park is renowned for its Heritage Farm, which showcases agricultural history through authentic log cabins, a corn crib, tobacco barn, cane mill, and other exhibits. Children enjoy seeing the farm animals, which typically include goats, sheep, chickens, pigs, and donkeys. The Seventeen-Mile River winds through the park with a boardwalk traversing cypress swamp where rare and endangered plants thrive. The wiregrass community provides habitat for pitcher plants, indigo snakes, and gopher tortoises, making it exceptional for birding and nature photography. Outdoor recreation includes fishing in the 4-acre lake, hiking, biking with rentals available, and paddling with boat and kayak rentals on site. Horse enthusiasts can explore 13.4 miles of equestrian trails. The park also offers cottages, the historic Burnham House cabin, picnic shelters, playground, and an outdoor amphitheater. Named after General John Coffee, a planter and U.S. Congressman, the park was donated to Georgia by Coffee County citizens in 1970.
