About

General Burnside Island State Park occupies a unique 400-acre island in Lake Cumberland, making it the only island state park in Kentucky. Named for the sideburn-whiskered Civil War General Ambrose Burnside, who led patrols along the Cumberland River and used this island to watch for Confederate soldiers, the park combines rich history with modern recreation. The campground offers 101 total sites: 18 full service sites with electric, water, and sewer hookups; 74 standard electric sites with water; and 9 primitive tent sites. Most improved sites accommodate RVs up to 50 feet with back-in access. The park features two central bathhouses with flush toilets and showers, a dump station, and laundry facilities. Beyond camping, visitors enjoy an award-winning 18-hole golf course, boat ramp and marina access, fishing on Lake Cumberland, picnic shelters, and a playground. The island setting provides a distinctive camping experience with abundant water recreation opportunities including boating, jet skiing, and water skiing.
