About
Fishing Creek Campground is an established Army Corps of Engineers recreation area located on Lake Cumberland near Somerset, Kentucky. The campground sits in a mature hardwood forest above the shore of Fishing Creek, a tributary of Lake Cumberland, offering scenic views and abundant shade. With 27 RV sites featuring electric hookups and 20 primitive tent sites, the campground serves as a gateway to Lake Cumberland, the largest man-made lake east of the Mississippi River with over 1,200 miles of shoreline. The lake is renowned for its excellent fishing opportunities, with populations of largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, white bass, Kentucky bass, bluegill, crappie, rockfish, and walleye. The campground provides direct access to boating and water recreation. Facilities include restrooms with showers, a dump station, and a day-use area featuring picnic areas with grills and a playground. The recreation area also includes a boat ramp for easy lake access. In 2025, the campground underwent significant infrastructure repairs including replacement of over 400 feet of waterlines. Following these repairs, the campground reopened June 30, 2025, and operates on a first-come, first-served basis without advance reservations. Lee's Ford Resort Marina is located less than 10 minutes away, offering additional amenities including boat rentals, a general store, restaurant, and lodging.
Directions
From Somerset, Kentucky, take Highway 80 west for 5 miles. Turn right on East Highway 1248 and continue for 2 miles. The recreation area entrance will be on the left side of the road at the bottom of the hill.
