About
Gateview Campground sits at 7,538 feet elevation in a deep, narrow canyon at the south end of the Lake Fork Arm of Blue Mesa Reservoir within Curecanti National Recreation Area. This primitive, free campground features 6 first-come, first-served sites designed primarily for tent camping. The campground is accessed via CO Highway 149 (7 miles west of Powderhorn) followed by 6 miles north on the narrow, winding Blue Mesa Cutoff Road (CR-25). Due to the narrow gravel access road, even small RVs or pop-up trailers are not recommended. The campground provides vault toilets seasonally, but campers must bring their own water as none is available on-site. Each site includes a picnic table and fire grate. The remote location offers solitude and access to Blue Mesa Reservoir for fishing and water activities. Weather at this elevation can vary greatly throughout the day. Summer temperatures range from 50 to 90°F during the day and 40 to 60°F at night. Afternoon thunderstorms and strong winds are common during summer months. The campground operates seasonally, typically from late spring through fall, and is closed during winter when the access road is not maintained.
Directions
From Powderhorn, travel 7 miles west on CO Highway 149, then turn north onto Blue Mesa Cutoff Road (CR-25) and continue 6 miles on narrow gravel road to the campground.
