About

Red Creek Group Site offers an exclusive group camping experience in Curecanti National Recreation Area, situated in southwest Colorado between the West Elk Mountains and the dramatic Black Canyon of the Gunnison. The single group site accommodates 9-20 people and must be reserved in advance through Recreation.gov. Located at 7,542 feet elevation, the campground is surrounded by semi-arid shrubland with large cottonwood trees lining Red Creek, which flows through the campground and into Blue Mesa Reservoir. The campground provides basic amenities including a vault toilet, seasonal potable water (shut off around September 19), picnic tables, a fire grate, and trash service with recycling. RVs longer than 22 feet are not recommended due to the narrow parking area and lack of turnaround space. Cell phone coverage is limited in this area. Nearby attractions include the Dillon Pinnacles Trail, a 4-mile hike showcasing volcanic spires, and Blue Mesa Reservoir for fishing brown, rainbow, and Mackinaw trout plus Kokanee salmon. The Red Creek Road provides access to Gunnison National Forest for additional hiking opportunities.

Directions

From Gunnison, drive west on US Highway 50 for 19 miles. Red Creek is on the north side of the highway, approximately 3.5 miles west of Elk Creek.
