About

Red Creek Group Site sits in the heart of southwest Colorado within the Curecanti National Recreation Area, surrounded by national forest and park lands. The campground features a single group site nestled among large cottonwood trees, where Red Creek flows from the West Elk Mountains into Blue Mesa Reservoir. By mid to late summer, the creek becomes low enough for wading, with small fish inhabiting the deeper pools. The location offers exceptional outdoor recreation opportunities. Blue Mesa Reservoir provides some of the best fishing in Colorado for brown, rainbow, and Mackinaw trout, with the densest population of Kokanee salmon in the country. The nearby Dillon Pinnacles Trail offers a 4-mile lollipop hike with views of volcanic spires. Red Creek Road provides access to additional hiking opportunities in the surrounding national forests. Wildlife is abundant throughout the area, including mule deer, mountain lions, black bears, bighorn sheep, elk, and occasional moose. Bald eagles arrive in winter to fish the reservoirs. The semi-arid shrubland environment sits at 7,542 feet elevation, where summer temperatures range from 50 to 90°F with afternoon thunderstorms common.
