Ross Prairie Trailhead and Campground is a well-equipped camping destination situated along the southern boundary of the Marjorie Harris Carr Cross Florida Greenway in Marion County, adjacent to Ross Prairie State Forest. This full-service campground features 14 pull-through sites with compacted shell surface, each equipped with 30-amp and 50-amp electrical pedestals and potable water hookups, making it ideal for RVs and horse trailers alike. The facility is particularly popular with equestrians, offering two horse wash racks and access to nearly 14 miles of equestrian trails within this segment of the greenway between State Road 200 and County Road 484. Mountain bikers can explore approximately 5.7 miles of single-track trails, while hikers have access to the Florida National Scenic Trail via a 1-mile blue-blazed connector that leads to the main orange-blazed through-trail running between Dunnellon and Santos. Campground amenities include a bathhouse with flush toilets, a dump station, picnic pavilions, and trash collection. Picnic tables are provided at each campsite, with fire rings available at the pavilions and equestrian sites. An on-site campground host is available year-round. Wildlife viewing opportunities abound, with resident species including whitetail deer, wild turkey, bobcat, alligators in the prairie, and gopher tortoises in the sandhills.
