About

Frosty Bay Cabin sits 36 miles south of Wrangell on the south shore of Frosty Bay along the Cleveland Peninsula mainland. This 14' x 16' hunter-style cabin with half loft features 2 single bunks and 2 double bunks sleeping up to 6 guests, plus a table, benches, and an oil heater. A small wrap-around deck provides views of Frosty Bay and Deer Island across Seward Passage. The area is known for high-density brown bear populations, along with black bears, moose, and Sitka black-tailed deer. Anglers will find excellent fishing for King salmon from May to July, pink salmon in July and August, and silver salmon in August and September. Crabbing, halibut, and shrimping are available in nearby saltwater. A 600-foot surfaced planked trail from the cabin connects to an unmaintained 10-mile road system built in the early 1990s, offering hiking and hunting access during designated seasons. The surrounding Tongass National Forest rainforest is primarily Sitka spruce and western hemlock with some cedar, set against hills and mountains reaching 2,800 feet elevation. Access requires float plane (32 miles) or boat (36 miles) from Wrangell. A mooring buoy is anchored in the bay for cabin guests only, and Frosty Bay offers good anchorages. Guests should check tide tables before arrival by boat. Visitors must bring their own bedding, cooking utensils, and #1 stove oil for heating. Water is available from a nearby stream but must be treated before use.
