About
Anan Lake Cabin provides a unique wilderness experience at a remote backcountry lake in the Tongass National Forest. The 14'x16' hunter-style cabin sits at 231' elevation on the south end of Anan Lake, accessible exclusively by floatplane from Wrangell (31 air miles). The cabin accommodates up to 6 guests with 2 single bunks and 2 double bunks, plus a table, benches, and an oil stove. Guests can explore the lake using the provided 14' skiff with oars. Fishing opportunities include cutthroat trout from May to September and silver salmon in September on Anan Lake, plus steelhead in April-May and pink salmon in July-August on Anan Creek. Boulder Lake is accessible via a primitive trail about 0.3 miles from the cabin. In-season hunting is popular in designated areas. The surrounding terrain features moderate to steep mountain peaks covered with Sitka spruce, western hemlock rainforest, and muskeg. Black and brown bears, deer, bald eagles, and waterfowl are abundant. The nearby Anan Wildlife Observatory offers exceptional bear viewing during July and August salmon runs, though there is no developed access from the cabin to the observatory. Note that areas are closed to the public between June 15 and September 15 near the lower trail to saltwater.
Directions
