About

Brown County State Park encompasses nearly 16,000 acres of rugged hills, ridges, and fog-shrouded ravines in south-central Indiana, earning it the nickname 'Little Smokies' for its resemblance to the Great Smoky Mountains. As Indiana's largest state park, it features glacially-carved landscapes with narrow ridges, steep slopes, and deep gullies, along with nearly 20 miles of tree-lined roads and multiple scenic vistas overlooking uninterrupted forestland. The park offers 401 electric Class A campsites distributed across Buffalo Ridge, Taylor Ridge, and Raccoon Ridge campgrounds, with 17 sites being wheelchair accessible. Additionally, there are 28 non-electric sites, a 60-site rally area, and youth tent camping areas. Modern amenities include electrical hookups, picnic tables, fire rings, restrooms with showers, a camp store, and a dump station. A separate horsemen's campground features 118 electric and 86 non-electric equestrian sites with access to 70 miles of horse trails. Recreational opportunities abound with over 10 numbered hiking trails ranging from easy to rugged difficulty, plus mountain bike trails rated among the best on the continent by 'Bike' magazine. The park also features Abe Martin Lodge with dining and an indoor water park, a saddle barn offering guided trail rides, fishing in Ogle and Strahl lakes, a swimming pool, tennis courts, and a nature center. The historic artist community of Nashville sits just outside the park with shops, restaurants, and galleries. The park is particularly popular during fall color season and remains open year-round.
