About

Yellowwood State Forest encompasses 24,162 acres of forested terrain in Brown County, Indiana, established in 1940 from federal lands improved by the Civilian Conservation Corps. The campground offers 80 designated primitive (Class C) campsites south of the forest office, with 32 sites equipped with electric hookups, plus a carry-in tent camping area to the north. Vault toilets, drinking water, and a playground serve campers throughout the year. The centerpiece 133-acre Yellowwood Lake, completed in 1939, offers excellent fishing and boating opportunities with electric trolling motors only. Additional fishing is available at Bear Lake and Crooked Creek Lake, though camping is not permitted at these locations. The forest provides boat rentals including rowboats, kayaks, and paddleboats during operating hours. Extensive trail systems wind through the property, including the Tecumseh Trail and numerous marked bridle trails for horseback riding. The forest adjoins Morgan-Monroe State Forest to the west and Brown County State Park to the southeast, providing access to even more recreational opportunities. All campsites operate on a first-come-first-served basis year-round with no advance reservations accepted.

Directions

Located 7 miles west of Nashville, Indiana. Access via Yellowwood Road from Highway 46. Do not use Jackson Creek Road as it is unpaved with difficult conditions.
