About

Yellowwood State Forest encompasses over 23,000 acres of rugged, forested terrain in Brown County, centered around the scenic 133-acre Yellowwood Lake. The campground offers 80 primitive Class C sites situated south of the forest office and a carry-in tent camping area to the north. A separate 10-site horsemen's camp provides convenient access to the extensive network of equestrian trails winding through the forest. All camping operates on a first-come, first-served basis 365 days per year with no advance reservations. Campers must register at the forest office upon arrival. Vault toilets and drinking water are located near the campsites. The forest also features picnic areas with tables and grills, a reservable picnic shelter, and a playground within the campground area. Yellowwood Lake offers fishing for largemouth bass, bluegill, redear sunfish, and channel catfish. Only electric trolling motors are permitted on the lake. The Tecumseh Trail passes through the forest, and dispersed backcountry camping is allowed along the trail with specific restrictions.
