About

Fort Boonesborough State Park preserves one of Kentucky's most significant pioneer sites along the Kentucky River in Madison County. Daniel Boone established Fort Boonesborough in 1775 after leading settlers through the Cumberland Gap, and today a full-scale reconstruction of the fort features cabins, blockhouses, and living historians demonstrating 18th-century crafts and daily life. The campground offers over 160 sites, all with electric and water hookups, with some sites featuring full hookups including sewer. Three dump stations serve the campground, and central service buildings provide modern bathhouses with showers, restrooms, and laundry facilities. The camp store stocks firewood, ice, snacks, bait and tackle, and gifts. Sites include fire rings, grills, and picnic tables, with back-in sites accommodating RVs up to 40 feet. Beyond camping, the park features a swimming pool complex with water slide, miniature golf, volleyball, horseshoes, and hiking trails. The Kentucky River provides fishing and boating access via a boat ramp. The reconstructed fort and Kentucky River Museum offer educational experiences about frontier Kentucky.
