About
Forest Creek Campground occupies a historically significant location along the Barlow Road (Forest Road 3530), the wagon route that pioneers used as the final leg of their journey to Oregon's fertile Willamette Valley. While few pioneers camped here overnight, many stopped to water themselves and their livestock at the creek before continuing west. The campground is operated by Alaska Recreational Management under a concessionaire agreement with the Forest Service. Sites are available first-come-first-served only, with no reservations accepted. Due to the primitive nature of the campground, there is no potable water available, so campers must bring their own supply. Vault toilets are provided. Recreation opportunities abound in the surrounding area. To the east, visitors can ride up to Boulder Point for panoramic views, while the White River lies to the west. The area offers day hiking, backpacking, stream fishing, and mountain biking trails.
Directions
From Tygh Valley, OR: Travel west on Forest Road 48 past the forest boundary. Continue on FR 48 for about 10-12 miles to FR 4885. Follow FR 4885 southeast for approximately one mile to the campground.
