About

Flossy Bay Dispersed Camp East Site is a primitive dispersed camping location situated in the Flathead National Forest near Hungry Horse Reservoir in northwest Montana. As a dispersed site, it is free to use and provides no developed facilities such as water, restrooms, or trash service. Campers are expected to be self-sufficient and follow Leave No Trace principles. The Flathead National Forest allows dispersed camping almost everywhere outside of developed recreation areas, trailheads, and day-use sites. This site falls under the forest's food storage order, which requires proper storage of all food, garbage, and scented items due to the presence of grizzly bears and black bears in the area. Campers should use existing fire rings when available and ensure all fires are completely extinguished. Human waste must be buried in catholes at least 200 feet from water sources, and all toilet paper should be packed out. The maximum stay limit is 16 days within a given area, though some popular sites near water may have shorter posted limits. Visitors should be prepared for primitive conditions and potential winter road closures depending on snow conditions. This area provides an opportunity for solitude and a true backcountry camping experience in one of Montana's premier national forests.

Directions

From Martin City, Montana, turn off Highway 2 and continue on the main road through the town heading south. This road becomes East Side Reservoir Road. Continue for about 6 miles into the campground.
