About
Fish Creek Campground is nestled at 7,400 feet elevation along Fish Creek in the Sequoia National Forest, 54 miles northeast of Kernville via Mountain Road 99 and Sherman Pass Road. The campground features 40 first-come, first-served sites surrounded by aspen trees, with 12 sites suitable for RVs up to 24 feet. The setting provides a mix of open meadows and forested terrain. The campground serves as the starting point for the 10-mile Fish Creek National Recreation Trail, a designated National Recreation Trail that follows a gentle path along the mountain stream. The area is popular for hiking, fishing, horseback riding, and OHV activities, with the Fish Creek UTV trail (60-inch wide vehicles) beginning a few miles away. The canyon is known for abundant deer and elk populations, particularly in the large meadows above the creek. Facilities include vault toilets, picnic tables, and fire pits at each site. Campers must pack out all trash as there is no collection service. Well water is available but is not potable, so visitors should bring their own drinking water. The campground is accessed via paved roads and offers a more remote camping experience outside typical developed campground settings.
Directions
From Kernville, travel 54 miles northeast on Mountain Road 99 and east on Sherman Pass Road (Forest Road 22S05). Alternatively, from Highway 395, travel 32 miles west via Nine Mile Canyon Road (J41).
