About

Fallen Leaf Campground is situated on the north shore of Fallen Leaf Lake, adjacent to Taylor Creek and less than a mile from the south shore of Lake Tahoe. This large campground features 206 sites nestled among towering native pine, cedar, fir and aspen trees, including standard tent and RV sites plus six yurts available for rent. While campsites don't offer direct lake views, they provide a forested setting with some sites adjacent to wildflower meadows, and the lake is just a short walk away. Fallen Leaf Lake is less crowded than nearby Lake Tahoe, making this an ideal base camp for exploring the area. Both lakes offer opportunities for non-motorized and motorized boating, tubing, waterskiing, windsurfing, fishing, and swimming. The Pope and Baldwin swim beaches on Lake Tahoe's south shore are easily accessible. Hikers can access the 1-mile Moraine Trail directly from the campground. The Taylor Creek Visitor Center sits directly across Highway 89 and offers interpretive programs, guided walks on the Rainbow Trail, and the popular Stream Profile Chamber. Nearby Glen Alpine and Mt. Tallac trailheads provide excellent day hiking and backpacking access into Desolation Wilderness. The Pope-Baldwin bike path parallels Highway 89 for approximately 3 miles. The Tallac Historic Site, once home to the "Grandest Resort in the World," offers tours of historic buildings and grounds from Lake Tahoe's bygone era. Black bears are resident in the area and often seen by guests.

Directions

From South Lake Tahoe, take Highway 89 north from the junction of Highway 50 and 89 (the "Y"). In approximately 3 miles, turn left on Fallen Leaf Road. The campground entrance is about half a mile on the right.
