Hospital Flat Campground sits at 3,000 feet elevation along the North Fork of the Kern Wild and Scenic River in Sequoia National Forest, 6.5 miles north of Kernville. The campground features 40 individual family sites and one ADA-accessible group site accommodating up to 30 people. Gray pine, scrub oak, and grasses cover the steep canyon walls while cottonwoods and willows line the riverbanks. Amenities include vault toilets, potable water from a hand pump, picnic tables, and campfire rings at each site. The campground has paved access roads and accommodates RVs and trailers up to 30 feet. No hookups, showers, or dump station are available. The Upper Kern River area is renowned for kayaking, rafting, and fishing. Nearby attractions include the Cannell Meadow National Recreation Trail, which begins just north of Kernville and stretches 11.5 miles through mixed pine and fir forest. Day trips to Sequoia National Park and Giant Sequoia National Monument are also popular.
